Citi Ventures and Citi’s Technology Organization are pleased to host a one-week virtual hackathon from December 4th through December 11th.
If you have 2+ years of technical experience and are interested in working in one of our Citi India offices, we invite you to participate in this event. You’ll have the chance to collaborate with other technology professionals, apply your skills in a real business challenge, and learn more about a leading financial services firm.
Over the course of the competition, you will have the opportunity to engage with Citi professionals through senior speaker series, employee Q&As, and networking sessions.
Hackathon winners and other stellar participants will be invited to accelerated interviews for open positions in Citi’s India offices and receive other fun prizes (e.g. AirPods, Drones, etc).
The recommended team size is 2-4 individuals, but you do not need to have a team formed in order to participate in this event. Teams can be formed after the challenge kicks off.
Judging Criteria
Viability (40 points) – Does the prototype work? Does it have the potential to work on a large scale?
Business Value & Effectiveness (40 points) – To what degree does the solution effectively solve the problem?
Creativity (20 points) – Does this demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking?
Macro-events often impact the way we conduct business at Citi, with global events such as US-China Trade War or Brexit, Natural Calamities, Pandemics among other events that constitute geopolitical volatility and unpredictability. When macro-events start moving the markets and have a long-term impact we call it a ‘macro-trend’ where it creates a ripple effect that directly influences decisions made in financial markets.
Usually, trading data, social media, and news basically determine which brand of signals are related trends and which asset classes are affected. More often than not, however, we learn of the potential impact of global events on business too late. The way we currently get around this is heavily dependent on a human’s experience to “brute force” advanced signals that would eventually lead to the eventual event that triggers an outcome.
Build a product that focuses on predicting market-moving events before they become widely available on news sites (such as Thomson Reuters, Associate Press) that can be utilized by Citi market traders.
Questions to Consider:
How might we use the various fast and slow media types to detect macro-trends so that we can assess impact scenarios to various portfolios?
Consider social media (e.g. Twitter, Reddit, Facebook) and other types (e.g. satellites, weather reporting)
How do we group events in a trend based on how this will affect the markets and more specifically, individual asset classes?
Can we build a product around this that could help us evaluate potential “macro trends” and their impact on the business?
Hackathon winners and other stellar participants will also be invited to accelerated interviews for open positions in Citi’s India offices (Pune and Chennai).
